What drives the price of an online personal trainer?
Mostly, time from a qualified person. The more of the coach's attention your plan includes, the more it costs, and the less it is a template with your name on it. Our guide on how to get a training plan made for you explains the difference.
- Who coaches you: a named, qualified coach costs more than a programme with no person behind it
- The same coach every week, rather than a team taking turns
- Technique feedback on your videos, and how often you can send them
- How often the plan is reviewed and changed
- How quickly and how often the coach replies in chat
- Nutrition: a meal plan from a nutritionist adds a second professional
- Sessions in person, in hybrid packages
What are the price ranges, in general terms?
Prices vary widely between coaches and countries, so treat any single figure you read with care, including the averages in articles. The market is easier to read by level.
Most online coaching is sold monthly. Some coaches sell blocks of several months at a lower monthly price, which usually means a longer commitment: check how you can stop before you choose it.
- At the bottom: app-only programmes and template plans, with nobody checking your progress
- In the middle: monthly coaching with a named coach, a plan built for you, technique feedback and chat
- Higher: the same coaching with nutrition from a qualified professional, or very frequent contact
- At the top: hybrid packages that add regular sessions in person
Online, in person or hybrid: what do you get for the money?
An in-person session buys an hour of a coach's full attention, each time. Online coaching spreads the coach's attention across the whole month: the plan, feedback on your videos, check-ins and chat. That is why a month of online coaching usually costs less than a handful of sessions in person.
Hybrid sits between the two. It makes sense when you are learning lifts from scratch, or when you want someone in the room now and then while the plan carries the rest of the month.
Compare the cost of a month with what the month includes. A cheaper plan with no feedback can cost you more in the end if you train for months with a fault nobody saw.
When is a cheap online trainer too cheap?
When nobody is reading your answers. A low price is fine if a qualified person still writes your plan and checks your progress. It is a problem when the plan is a template and the chat is a sales channel. Watch for these signs.
- The plan arrives minutes after you pay
- No name, and no qualifications you can check
- No way to send videos, or videos that never get an answer
- A long minimum term, or a fee to cancel
- Supplements sold as part of the plan
What should I ask before I pay?
A coach who answers these six questions clearly, in a few messages, is a coach who will answer you later too. More in how to choose an online personal trainer.
- Who will write my plan, and is it always the same person?
- What are your qualifications, and where can I check them?
- How do I send videos, and how often can I?
- How often does the plan change, and when are the check-ins?
- Who writes the meal plan, if there is one?
- How do I cancel, and is there a minimum term?
What will online coaching on Yeki cost?
Online personal training on Yeki is coming soon, with two monthly plans. Training costs €59.00 a month: a qualified coach with a name and credentials, always the same person, a plan built around you that changes as you progress, technique feedback on the videos you send, and chat. Training and nutrition costs €109.00 a month and adds a meal plan from a nutritionist and a food diary with macros and meal photos.
Prices include VAT, and Plus is included in both plans. They renew every month, and you cancel from the app whenever you like, without a phone call. Until it opens, you can join the waiting list on the online coaching page and we write to you on the day it starts.
Can I choose a different coach on Yeki?
Yes. You can choose any other professional in the app: you see their results and reviews, and you can talk to them in chat before paying anything. Some will cost less than our plan, and we are happy about that. Others will cost more for a good reason, such as a specialisation or years of experience. All of them are welcome.
And if your gym is on Yeki, the plan from its coach arrives in the app for free, with your personal bests, your body measurements and your history in the same place.
